You have somehow stumbled across The Thinkers Club. Welcome, welcome!

Thinkers Club is a place where I write about deeper thinking using tools for thought and AI. We are a community of like-minded folk who are looking to get the most out of our daily tools to help them do better work, think deeper and be more creative.

Some of the topics you can expect:

  • Obsidian, and other tools for thought.

  • Using AI for deeper thinking.

  • Building a personal knowledge base.

  • Company knowledge bases.

  • How to simplify ways of working and productivity.

If this sounds like your thing, then be sure to join.

I guess you want to know a bit about me? My name is James, thirty-something and living in a small Wiltshire village. Theres me, my wife (Becky), our dog (Button) and a small herd of Shetland ponies.

I left school at seventeen with a collection of very average grades, and spent a number of years in factories and building sites.

It wasn’t until my mid-twenties that I gave myself a kick and decided to do something I felt passionate about, and taught myself to design and code within a year.

From there, I have done some awesome things.. I joined the Monzo engineering leadership team when it was considered the most desirable startup in the UK. I was part of a thirty person team that raised a $555 million series A fundraise. I have helped countless people change their careers and land roles in software.

Learning, cultivating knowledge and chasing clear thinking has genuinely changed my life.

This is why I dedicate so much time to thinking about how to “think”.

When I started sharing my Obsidian setup a couple of years ago, the simplicity struck a nerve with people who thought very similarly to me and shared the same values. Doing great work, doesn’t require some kind of magic complex workflow. It requires simplicity and focus. The first years of my software career I wrote everything on pen and paper, and it did absolutely fine.

I love helping people discover this for themselves. This is why I started The Thinkers Club.
